Chana Guacamole

This recipe comes from Gretchen Becker. "This has the avocado taste without as much fat as a regular recipe, and anyway avocado has the good type of fat," she writes. Indeed, the fat in avocados is mostly monunsaturated—the same type that is found in olive oil—which has been shown in studies to lower blood cholesterol.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (cooked) chana dal
  • 2 small avocados
  • juice of one lemon
  • 2 large cloves of garlic or more, to taste
  • salt, to taste

Preparation:

Whirl it all together in a blender. Serve with tortillas, pita, Indian, or Western bread.
