Great Sand Dunes

I went back to the Great Sand Dunes National Park to see what most people want to see — the dunes. I spent several days at and on them four years ago, but never posted any photographs.

Here is a shot that I took at the top of the dunes on the morning of September 5, 2007:

The dunes were still there in approximately the same place last week. But this time I enjoyed them from the base. The tallest dunes in North America, they rise about 750 feet from the floor of the San Luis Valley.

But even here I find birds. I especially like this one:
