Tragedy

For several days I have been anxiously awaiting the birth of two goslings. A pair of Canada Geese had built a nest at the tip of a little peninsula jutting into Tantra Lake right in front of my apartment. The nest had two eggs in it:

While I was sitting on the picnic table watching the pair of geese, my neighbor Nancy came out and joined me. We noticed the precarious position of the eggs:

But the couple were dedicated. While the female sat on the nest, the male kept me away with a sort of hiss:

But this morning the nest was empty. The eggs had somehow rolled into the lake:

Lost!

Lost!

But life goes on. The pair is still here, living to try again:
