Lions are everyone’s favorite big cat — unless they are chasing you. The three East African countries — Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda — probably have more lions than anywhere else.
Lions are also easier to photograph than the other big cats. I didn’t see nearly as many leopards and cheetahs, and even when I found them, those somewhat smaller cats are less dramatic than lions.
During the three years that I lived in East Africa I took my share of lion pictures. These are my favorites.
I still remember shooting this photo in Nairobi National Park, which is about five miles outside of the city where I lived.
I had the great fortune to take this series of three lion porn photos in Amboseli National Park on the Kenya-Tanzania border.
These two shots of lion cubs are the result of a scene like that above. Since I can’t decide which of these I like better, I’m sending both.
This shot of a daddy lion and his cubs probably shows his yawn and not his growl. But he sure has a big mouth!
